Inertial Navigation Systems
Safran has developed proven expertise in all inertial technologies (mechanical, ring-laser, fiber-optics, resonator, MEMS), based on 70 years of experience in designing and producing navigation systems for civil and military platforms operating in all environments.
Our new-generation family of inertial navigation systems is for all types of aircraft either as original equipment or retrofit: mainline and regional jets, business aircraft, helicopters and UAVs. Designed to meet growing demand for contained costs, our inertial navigation systems are based on a disruptive technology, the hemispherical resonator gyro (HRG), allowing Safran to offer a very competitive alternative to current solutions combining compactness, ultra-high reliability and lower cost of ownership.
Safran's inertial navigation system proposes hybrid inertial/satnav systems like ADIRU (Air Data Inertial Reference Unit) or attitude and heading reference systems like APIRS (Aircraft Piloting Inertial Reference System). These innovative navigation suites can be integrated in critical avionics architectures.
Safran Electronics & Defense, Avionics USA, LLC installs and repairs a wide range of advanced and reliable options for all types of fixed and rotary wing aircraft. From horizontal stabilizer systems and flap control systems to sensors, actuation and computers, this proven equipment increases stability while improving handling qualities and reducing pilot's workload.
