Safran expands its engineering, assembly and testing center for flight testing and satellite stations and antennas in the Nouvelle Aquitaine region

La Teste de Buch, France, February 5, 2020

Safran Data Systems, a Safran Electronics & Defense company, announced today that it has laid the cornerstone for an extension to its engineering and production center in La Teste de Buch, in the Arcachon Bay coastal region of southwest France. Local government officials attended the ceremony, from both the mayor's office and the region (COBAS), along with representatives of customers including the French space agency CNES, the French defense procurement agency DGA, Thales Alenia Space and Airbus Defence and Space.

The new 3,900 square meter (42,120 sq ft) building, scheduled to open by the end of the year, is located on a site spanning more than 27,000 square meters (291,600 sq ft) in La Teste de Buch. It will support the company's growth by enabling it to handle demand from an increasing number of space programs (science and telecom missions, constellations, etc.) and by making production more efficient.

Created in 1981, this facility is specialized in the design and production of antennas and ground stations for several applications: reception of data from satellites and scientific spacecraft, along with telemetry for flight testing. These products and services are used by all major space programs and test centers worldwide, a field in which Safran Data Systems is one of the market leaders.

"Our plant in La Teste de Buch, with 170 employees, is bolstering production capabilities to build solid foundations for the future and enhance our competitiveness," said Jean-Marie Bétermier, Chief Executive Officer of Safran Data Systems. "The company is investing the resources needed to consolidate our leadership, while also boosting customer satisfaction and improving the work environment for our own people."
