Sagem delivers 10,000th APIRS inertial reference system, for an ATR 72-600 regional turboprop

Paris Air Show, Le Bourget, June 19, 2013.

Sagem (Safran), the European leader in inertial navigation solutions, has delivered its 10,000th APIRS™ inertial reference system, which will be fitted to an ATR 72-600 regional turboprop. .

Today's delivery marked the high point of what should be a record-breaking year for Sagem's APIRS, with well more than 1,000 units to be produced in 2013.

The APIRS is an attitude and heading reference system, and the first link in an integrated flight control chain. It features high reliability, easy integration and self-calibration in flight. Built around a fiber optic gyro (FOG), the Sagem APIRS perfectly meets the needs of avionics suites on regional aircraft and helicopters.

Sagem's navigation systems are produced at its plant in Montluçon, France, and are fitted to a large number of civil and military airplanes and helicopters, in particular the Eurocopter EC135/145/155/225, NH Industries NH90, Bombardier Dash 8, CASA 295 and EADS ATR 72-600.

Sagem draws on more than 60 years of experience in navigation systems to develop solutions for a wide range of aerospace and defense applications, encompassing all inertial technologies: laser gyros, mechanical gyros, vibrating-beam rate gyros, hemispherical resonator gyros (HRG), fiber optic gyros (FOG) and MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems).
