1) Summary of Job Purpose:
Perform system safety responsibilities in the development of pilot control systems, throttle control systems, large actuator, and related flight control products for the next generation of business, regional, military and air-transport aircraft. Engineering duties will span the entire product lifecycle, from initial design and requirements capture through system testing and manufacture.
2) Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
o Work with experienced team of Safety and Reliability engineers to perform civil safety assessment process in accordance with ARP476.
o Support creation of various Safety and Reliability documentation including Functional Hazard Assessments (FHAs), Preliminary System Safety Assessments (PSSAs), System Safety Assessments (SSAs), Fault Tree Analysis (FTAs), Common Mode Analyses (CMAs)
o Support systems, hardware, and software engineering teams in defining system safety requirements during development activity
o Review of design and development documentation for safety critical equipment
o Accountable to team members and organizational leadership for committed work and responsibilities
o Develop and maintain expertise in assigned areas (program, function, process, technology, etc)
o Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, and organizational leaders to develop plans
3) Required Competencies:
Education / Experience:
o Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution
o Legally authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship
o This position requires use of information or access to hardware, which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee
Candidates external to Safran: No relocation offered with this position. Only considering candidates within a 50-mile radius of the Safran Electronics and Defense, Avionics USA, LLC Irvine facility.
Skills and Abilities:
o Knowledge of ARP4761A and ARP4754A is a plus
o Knowledge of aircraft mechanical or electronic systems
o Basic knowledge of statistics and probability
o Effective oral/written communication skills (including technical writing)
4) Physical Requirements:
o While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.
o The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
o The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
