Safran Electronics & Defense's Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) units optimize the operating points of propulsion systems to improve performance. These autonomous multi-sensor computers analyze multiple data inputs and control the fuel supply and actuators, relieving the pilot of engine management tasks. FADEC units are designed to withstand the harshest environments (extreme temperatures, vibration, radar radiation, lightning, etc.), thus offering a high level of safety and reliability. Specially developed for the Rafale, the FADEC is adapted to the specificities of combat aircraft engines and their use: controls engine thrust and post-combustion, electronic engine protection in case of overspeed.
Derived from the FADEC 3, the control unit of the Airbus A400M satisfies the specific requirements of the very powerful propeller turboprop. It also includes embedded maintenance and diagnostic functions (health monitoring).
